What Year Is It?: 'He-Man' Film and 'Young Sherlock Holmes' Series Are IP Desperation Plays for Amazon
Plus, my thoughts on the latest 'Knives Out 3' casting news and Benedict Cumberbatch's new Netflix series 'Eric.'
Happy Wednesday, folks! It was a busy day in La La Land, so let’s dive in…
Last night, I started watching Season 3 of Mayor of Kingstown, which I’ll get into later this week, as the Jeremy Renner-led series returns to Paramount+ on Sunday night.
I also watched Gary Vider’s new special, It Could Be Worse, which as I suspected, was indeed very funny. Gary is a short, bald Jew — remind you of anyone you know? — and he has a very precise, measured delivery that allows you to appreciate the care and the craft that has gone into each clever punchline. I loved his first special, Vider Las Vegas, and his latest is a worthy follow-up, so check it out if you need a few laughs to brighten your day.
In tonight’s newsletter, you’ll read about the two young stars Amazon has cast as He-Man and young Sherlock Holmes, Benedict Cumberbatch’s new Netflix series Eric, the latest additions to Knives Out 3, the Kadeem Hardison gem that Deadline forgot to mention in its Criminal scoop, Paramount’s latest spec purchase, a new video game movie from the director of Blue Beetle, and my thoughts on the trailer for the George Clooney-Brad Pitt movie Wolfs.
