Exclusive: Apple Finds Unexpected Distribution Partner for Steve McQueen's WWII Movie 'Blitz'

Newcomer Elliot Heffernan stars alongside Saoirse Ronan and Harris Dickinson.

It’s Sunday — the first day of a brand new, Twitter-free chapter for yours truly. Just imagine what I could do with all that free time on my hands! I could use the extra time to contact the Massachusetts State Police for old booking photos that have never seen the light of day and would be hugely embarrassing if they ever did. Hmmm…

In today’s newsletter, I’ll tell you which indie distributor Apple has partnered with on the release of Steve McQueen’s WWII movie Blitz. I got the tip from a good source — but full disclosure, I didn’t reach out to Apple to confirm it, for the last time I gave Apple a courtesy call about a scoop, they just picked up the phone and told Variety what I was planning to write. That’s what Apple’s industry-leading corporate communication team felt was “fair” at the time.

Well, I hope all the Variety reporters who recently attended Apple’s glitzy Wolfs premiere enjoyed hobnobbing with Brad and George, and more importantly, I hope that the streamer’s execs Zack Van Amburg, Jamie Erlicht, and Matt Dentler had fun rubbing shoulders with all the super-cool Variety reporters.

But while those award-winning journalists were busy sipping champagne and lining up celebs for podcasts that no one listens to, your old pal The InSneider was out doing something called “reporting,” where you talk to people and then break news without anyone’s permission. I’m sure that someone at Variety is old enough to remember when the staff did that…

Once again, I truly believe my juice is worth the squeeze and I’m a bargain for the price, but if you need a discount, I’m more than happy to work with you — especially if you’re an intern or an assistant in this business. Just email me at [email protected].
