Exclusive: Thuso Mbedu to Star in Gina Prince-Bythewood’s 'Children of Blood and Bone' Movie

Plus, thoughts on Brady Corbet's epic drama 'The Brutalist' and Michael B. Jordan's upcoming remake of 'The Thomas Crown Affair.'

Happy Wednesday, folks!

I’m sure I’ll be writing more about yesterday’s little brouhaha on social media, about which I have my regrets, but for now, we press onward and upward and move on to the next one, the way real reporters do.

Last night, I got whiplash from the doubleheader of Jason Reitman’s Saturday Night (review coming soon) and Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist (review below), and today, I’m off to see A24’s erotic thriller Babygirl and Neon’s post-apocalyptic musical The End. But first, a screening of Friendship starring Paul Rudd and Tim Robinson.

In tonight’s newsletter, you’ll read about who booked the lead in Paramount’s Children of Blood and Bone movie, and who producer Michael B. Jordan hired to direct the Thomas Crown Affair remake starring Michael B. Jordan. Plus, found out how much Apple paid for its 10-part Patriots docuseries The Dynasty, and why Netflix paid $17 million for It’s What’s Inside.

I’ll be working on a ton of TIFF reviews the rest of this week — my sources need a break, so you’re welcome, Hollywood! — so keep your eyes peeled as I weigh in on the rest of the fest and offer up a brand new, very different batch of Oscar predictions.
