Hot Rumor: Chris Hemsworth Eyed to Star in Disney’s 'Prince Charming' Movie

Plus, Dwayne Johnson teams up with J.J. Abrams, Paul Greengrass takes on Stephen King, and my review of Parker Finn's horror sequel 'Smile 2' starring Naomi Scott.

Happy Friday, folks!

I’m going to start tonight’s newsletter by saying something downright un-American:

I don’t like baseball.

I never have and I never will. It’s a boring sport, and if you see me at a baseball game, it will be because I wanted a soft pretzel.

But I’m a Boston sports fan who went to school in New York City, so I really had no choice but to follow the 2004 ALCS, which has remained etched in my brain ever since. And last night, I stayed up until 1:30 a.m. watching The Comeback, Netflix’s docuseries about the 2004 Boston Red Sox that arrives 20 years after the team’s incredible post-season run.

The Comeback will debut on Oct. 23, and believe me when I say that the three-part series is absolutely riveting. You don’t have to be a Red Sox fan to appreciate the different personalities in that clubhouse or the team’s insanely improbable come-from-behind victory after being down 3-0 in the series.

Allow me to be among the first to throw out a cheesy pun about director Colin Barnicle hitting a home run with this docuseries, which should hook even the most casual baseball fan thanks to participants such as Pedro Martinez, David Ortiz, Curt Schilling, Theo Epstein, Joe Torre, and The Comeback’s true MVP, Kevin Millar, who deserves his own reality show.

I know I’m a Boston homer and it’s in my DNA to have enjoyed a, but I swear, I turned it on only intending to watch a few minutes since it’s about baseball (ew) and I couldn’t turn it off. It’s totally worth your three-hour time investment, so don’t swing and miss out on this one.

Not to be outdone, Apple TV+ just announced a docuseries about this year’s World Series, though I can’t imagine that the stakes will be as high or that there will be nearly as much drama, regardless of which teams make it.

Tonight, I tell you the Avengers star that Disney would like to cast in its new Prince Charming movie from Wonka director Paul King, and I review Parker Finn’s horror sequel Smile 2, which features a hell of a performance from Naomi Scott. The sequel is also on track to gross $22 million this weekend — the same number as the first film.

There are also items about Dwayne Johnson teaming up with J.J. Abrams, Stephen King’s Fairy Tale getting the TV treatment, and confirmation of my American Psycho reboot story from back in February. Plus, I weigh in on Netflix’s new teaser for Jaume Collet-Serra’s airport-set action movie Carry-On, which stars Taron Egerton and Jason Bateman.
