Plus, 'Mickey 17' moonwalks to Michael Jackson's old release date, Eddie Murphy reteams with Bill Condon, and my review of Steve McQueen's WWII movie 'Blitz.'

I know it’s not exactly a “happy” Wednesday around these parts after the disappointing results of the Presidential election, but life goes on, and so, too, does the Hollywood beat.
On Tuesday, I tuned out the apocalyptic headlines and watched 12.12: The Day and Old Fox, which are South Korea and Taiwan’s submissions in the Best International Feature race. I’ll be moderating upcoming Q&A’s for both films, so if you have a chance to make it to a screening of either one, you should definitely try to see them on the big screen.
I understand that no one is in the mood right now to watch the Donald Trump movie The Apprentice, but I do think that Sebastian Stan’s comments about playing our new President-Elect are worth checking out. If you were left scratching your head today wondering how Trump was re-elected last night, watch The Apprentice and check out the creation of his playbook. The movie is now available on VOD and it’s worthy of your time, though I completely understand if you want to take a few days to calm down, as tensions are understandably high right now.
On Wednesday, Netflix confirmed that the episode titles I released months ago for Season 5 of Stranger Things were, in fact, accurate, though the show officially won’t return until next summer, as the streamer’s holiday gift to audiences this year will be Season 2 of Squid Game, which arrives on Dec. 26.
If you need a little pick-me-up today that’ll put a smile on your face, check out two new stand-up comedy specials from my pals Vishnu Akella and Jeremiah Watkins. Vishnu’s special Escapism, a 26-minute ode to India, is full of heart, wisdom, and jokes about ocular herpes, which is a real thing, while Jeremiah’s first crowd work special as his ex-con character Shanks offers neither heart nor wisdom — just a whole lot of laughs packed into 11 minutes. Enjoy, and congrats to both comics on a job well done…
Tonight, you’ll read about who Disney would like to cast opposite Chris Hemsworth in its live-action Prince Charming movie from Wonka director Paul King.
There are also items about Mickey 17’s new release date, Eddie Murphy’s George Clinton biopic, the horror movie that’s getting another sequel, and Gabriel LaBelle’s new movie based on a true story. Plus, I review Steve McQueen’s Blitz starring Saoirse Ronan and weigh in on the trailer for Lucasfilm’s new Star Wars series Skeleton Crew.
As for those admittedly suspicious James Bond rumors swirling around McQueen, well, I hope they aren’t true, as I’d hate to lose him to the 007 franchise at this stage, though perhaps he could elevate it like Sam Mendes did with Skyfall. We’ll see…
