What's the Latest With the 'Fast and Furious' Franchise? And Searchlight, Too, For That Matter?

Plus, thoughts on Tom Cruise's 'Top Gun 3' and a new 'Star Trek' movie from 'Andor' director Toby Haynes.

It’s Friday morning… do you know where your six-time Super Bowl-winning football coach is?

In case you didn’t know, I’m a Boston boy, so I got a little misty-eyed reading today’s reports that Bill Belichick has parted ways with the New England Patriots. He may not have won any awards for his deadpan personality, but I’ll take the six rings he brought to Foxboro and offer him a heartfelt “Thank You” for so many formative sports memories in my life. He’s the GOAT. Believe it.

Speaking of which, GOAT, the new movie from Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw — the one he’s producing, not the one he’s directing — was initially reported as centering on “a promising young athlete who is invited to train with a team’s retiring star.” It may have seemed obvious before, but I can now confirm that the sport in question is football, which makes sense given its popularity in America.

Last night, I ate up the penultimate episode of Fargo before checking out Pete Davidson’s new Netflix comedy special, Turbo Fonzarelli, which is pretty good so long as you can stand a few incest jokes. And yesterday, I co-hosted a lively episode of The Hot Mic with my pal John Rocha, so if you’d prefer to listen to a rundown of the week’s entertainment news, click here to check it out.

In today’s special morning edition, which is exclusive to paid subscribers, you’ll read about Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Tom Cruise, Celine Song, Patrick Somerville, Cillian Murphy, Danny Boyle, John Krasinski, Natalie Portman, Alicia Vikander, and Larry David.
