Early Below-the-Line Oscar Predictions Favor 'Dune' and 'Gladiator' Sequels Along With a Pair of Cannes Winners
Plus, DC Studios welcomes Kyle Chandler and Matthias Schoenaerts into the fold on HBO's 'Lanterns' series and WB's 'Supergirl' movie, respectively.
Happy Tuesday, folks!
Last night, I spent three hours watching the 1997 TV movie Dean Koontz’s Intensity, which was remarkably faithful to the author’s serial killer novel that I recently finished reading, though I suspect it was to its own detriment. A two-hour version could be truly killer, so while John C. McGinley and Molly Parker give it their all, this still felt like a deliberately paced TV movie — albeit an intense one! I’ll give it credit for that…
Bear with me over the next couple of weeks, as I have to find a new, somewhat affordable apartment in this godforsaken town, which means pounding the pavement in search of the best deal, and then packing up by myself, etc. I appreciate your patience…
Speaking of patience, kudos to Deadline for finally confirming my Guys and Dolls scoop from a couple of weeks ago. Yes, Rob Marshall is set to direct the classic musical for Sony, which has hired John Requa and Glenn Ficarra to write the script, per the trade.
In tonight’s newsletter, you’ll read my first crop of below-the-line Oscar predictions, and I also weigh in on the latest hot casting news out of DC Studios, which is welcoming Kyle Chandler and Matthias Schoenaerts into the fold.
Plus, Emerald Fennell is turning to two of her most trusted collaborators to lead her next movie, The Boys has an interesting new cast addition, and WB has released a trailer for Ryan Coogler’s new movie Sinners, which features not one but two Michael B. Jordans.
