Can Johnny Depp Make a Hollywood Comeback — and Does He Even Want To?
Plus, HBO's 'Harry Potter' series finds its Severus Snape, Paramount cracks 'Smile 3,' and my thoughts on this year's NBR winners and Indie Spirit Award nominees.
Happy Wednesday, folks!
I make my return to Los Angeles tomorrow, and I’ve missed you, so if you’re around before the holidays, hit me up for lunch. I’m buying, if people still do lunch these days…
Tonight, I plan to sit down and watch David Gordon Green’s comedy Nutcrackers on Hulu even though Ben Stiller turned down my interview request for Season 2 of Severance.
I get it — I’ve issued a fatwa against Apple — but I don’t know what all these reps are so afraid of. I’ve been interviewing talent since I was 19 years old and I can’t recall a single complaint. I’m sorry, but not as sorry as the New York Times Magazine should be for suggesting that Robert Pattinson is “The Last Movie Star.” He has definitely turned his career around to an extraordinary degree, but this is the very definition of hyperbole from a writer who must have forgotten what actual butts-in-seats movie stars look like.
Tonight, you’ll read about Johnny Depp’s possible Hollywood comeback — if he wants it — and my thoughts on this year’s NBR winners and Indie Spirit Award nominees, not that they matter in terms of the actual Oscar race.
There are also items about Harry Potter’s new Severus Snape, John Cena teaming up with Eric Andre (and Sam Richardson), Sienna Miller joining John Krasinski’s new movie, Jorma Taccone directing a Searchlight comedy, Showtime renewing The Agency, and Paramount cracking Smile 3. Plus, my take on the twisted trailer for the Geoffrey Rush-John Lithgow horror-thriller The Rule of Jenny Pen!
