Hot Rumor: The Sun Was Right... Joseph Quinn Now Being Eyed to Play George Harrison in Beatles Movies

Plus, Daniel Craig heads to DC, Anne Hathaway reteams with director Michael Showalter, and Colin Jost wants you to put your answer in the form of a question.

Happy Wednesday, everyone.

I’ll be traveling tomorrow, but keep your eyes peeled for the latest episode of FYC, and yet another coming this weekend, when we revisit the heated Best Actress race.

It’s hard to argue with any of the choices on THR’s 10 Actors to Watch list, so kudos to the trade’s staff for their choices. Aaron Pierre was great in Rebel Ridge, Josh Rivera blew me away with his turn as Aaron Hernandez in American Sports Story, and I loved Katy O’Brian’s performance in Love Lies Bleeding. No complaints here… other than maybe The Holdovers star Dominic Sessa is on this list a year too late. But that’s just getting nit-picky…

Speaking of THR, I really enjoyed Gary Baum’s story about estranged literary brothers Dave and Toph Eggers, which if nothing else, made me really want to read Dave’s acclaimed memoir A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius.

Moving on, shame on the personal publicists who refused to allow their clients to participate in Variety’s “Actors on Actors” series if it meant they were going to be paired with Sebastian Stan, who plays Donald Trump in The Apprentice.

Let me remind you that Stan is an actor playing a role. Perhaps the town’s evil flacks conspired to keep Stan out of the high-profile interview series because his performance blows away their own clients’ work in far lesser films? Personal publicists are the real reason that half the country hates Hollywood — it’s not the content, it’s the messaging.

Kudos to Paul Walter Hauser — a genuinely good egg — for speaking up about this ridiculous situation.

And finally, I predict that HBO will come to regret this statement about Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling “having the right to express her personal views,” as it opens up the door to all kinds of comparisons. What happens when some actor on The White Lotus or The Last of Us puts their foot in their mouth? Will they have the right to express their personal views? Or will they be silenced because they don’t control the rights to a piece of IP worth billions? It’s a slippery slope, and the rare unforced error from HBO, for if this is how the network feels, then why bother saying anything at all? It only sets them up to be called ”hypocrites” down the line…

Tonight you’ll read about Sam Mendes’ rumored choice to play George Harrison in the four Beatles movies that he’s prepping at Sony.

There are also items about Daniel Craig heading to DC Studios, Anne Hathaway reteaming with director Michael Showalter, Robert Pattinson reteaming with Christopher Nolan, a new buddy comedy starring David Spade, HBO and Lionsgate’s new first-look director deals, and Colin Jost’s Pop Culture Jeopardy!
