Hot Rumor: Is James Gunn Courting 'Queer' Director Luca Guadagnino for a Future DCU Project?

Plus, I parse the buzz from the Venice and Telluride Film Festivals, and is Bradley Cooper joining 'The Righteous Gemstones'?

Happy Tuesday, folks! I hope everyone had a great Labor Day Weekend. Now buckle up, as the next 6.5 months are going to be a hellish grind until we can all loosen our belts after Oscar night.

As I predicted in Friday’s newsletter, the holiday weekend brought some fireworks, as I reported that Josh Brolin received an offer to play Hal Jordan in HBO’s Lanterns series, which is modeled after True Detective.

Speaking of which, I’m told that if Brolin turns down the project — and I can’t imagine why he would — Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey, star of the original True Detective, would be next in line, followed by Ewan McGregor, who starred in The Corrections pilot that HBO famously passed on. That’s a freebie for ya!

And speaking of the DC Universe, tonight’s newsletter features a hot rumor about Challengers director Luca Guadagnino being courted for a future DCU project, and I also do my best to parse the buzz coming out of the Venice and Telluride Film Festivals, where the altitude can make some critics a little loopy.

Plus, have you heard that Bradley Cooper may be in the new season of The Righteous Gemstones? We talk about that below as well as the Nightbitch trailer starring Amy Adams that simply cannot be ignored.

Thanks to your generous support, I’m off to the Toronto International Film Festival tomorrow, so be prepared for an irregular publishing schedule, lots of reviews, and hopefully, a few interviews as well.
