Happy Wednesday, everyone!
Before we begin, a quick congratulations to Daria Cercek, who has officially been named President of Disney Live Action - Theatrical. The news caught some industry observers off-guard on Wednesday, but not eagle-eyed readers of this newsletter, as I tipped her Paramount departure nearly two full months ago and said she’d soon be reporting to Disney’s David Greenbaum.
Leaving aside the “who said what when” element, it’s just nice to see the people who I came up in this business with continue to thrive in the studio sector. Cercek is a smart, well-liked executive who knows how to build a diverse slate. She’ll now oversee a team of execs, including EVP Sam Dickerman, and SVPs Allison Erlikhman and Jessica Virtue.
Steve Asbell will continue to lead 20th Century Studios under Greenbaum, while Vanessa Morrison will continue to lead Disney’s live-action projects for streaming. The studio’s upcoming live-action projects include Snow White, The Amateur, Lilo & Stitch, Freakier Friday, and Tron: Ares, among others.
In tonight’s newsletter, you’ll find out everything I know about where the casting search for DC’s Sgt. Rock stands, and I’ll also tell you who is poised to join the cast of HBO’s Industry for its upcoming fourth season.
Plus, there are items about Joseph Kosinski reteaming with Top Gun: Maverick producer Jerry Bruckheimer, Claire Danes reteaming with the creator of My So-Called Life, Kristen Stewart’s new co-stars, and the director of Legendary’s new Street Fighter movie.
