Exclusive: WB's 'Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story' Getting a Wide Release Later This Fall

Plus, my thoughts on Jesse Eisenberg's new movie 'A Real Pain' starring Kieran Culkin, as well as Netflix's latest data dump and its new trailer for Season 2 of 'Squid Game.'

It’s Saturday, and this morning, I finished watching Netflix’s Menendez brothers series Monsters, which was pretty chilling, if you ask me. I agree that it was probably an episode or two too many, but “The Hurt Man” was certainly unique, and I thought Javier Bardem was excellent in the second half of the show. I also took some comfort in seeing THR’s esteemed TV critic complain about Netflix’s decision not to send out screeners, knowing I wasn’t alone in not receiving them.

These are the petty thoughts that journalists are otherwise too embarrassed (or simply professional) to write about, but I have no shame, plus, I’m honest to a fault. Honesty is in very short supply these days in this oh-so-polite town, where apparently, only comedians are allowed to have a sense of humor anymore. What a shame…

In any regard, I have decided to leave Twitter.com for the time being, so this newsletter will be the exclusive home of all my pithy thoughts that I was giving away for free for Elon Musk’s benefit. I’m sure I’ll be missed by many even though I was loved by so few. I have made so many memories on Twitter, and made so many friends, even as it has cursed my professional existence. We’ve got a real love-hate relationship, but for now, as I enter my next chapter, I must turn my back and have faith in this here product.

But don’t you worry… I’ll still be the same bad bitch over here, as I plan to save it all for the newsletter — and put it behind the paywall too so that all my catty enemies have to pay me to talk shit about the shit I’m talking.

Speaking of shit-talking, I know that all anyone wants to talk about is this Olivia Nuzzi-RFK Jr. story, but she’s not “newsy” enough for me — hey now! Personally, I just think back on the bullshit I’ve been fired for, only to see Nuzzi merely suspended by New York Magazine, and I laugh. And laugh. And cry. But what else is new these days?

At least I’m not alone in my puddle of tears, as my pal Don Murphy’s animated movie Transformers One is going to underperform at the domestic box office to the tune of $26 million. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve heard this movie is great and plan to catch up with it soon — I cannot tell a lie — but then again, I sure do love it when Don comes up short.

Granted, I’m eating Kraft dinner (the Kraft family and I go way back) while Don has been crying into bedsheets with a higher thread count than I’ll ever touch, so he’ll always get the last laugh, but score “one” for the little guy and something called karma. And it’s still coming around, because while I may have shut down my Twitter feed (for now), Don certainly hasn’t shut down his. Trust me…

Meanwhile, I’m not sure if this makes matters better or worse for Paramount, but Ridley Scott is already threatening to make Gladiator III, and God only knows how much that movie will cost given the rumored budget of the director’s forthcoming sequel (which again, looks great, for the record).

In tonight’s newsletter, you’ll read about the Christopher Reeve documentary Super/Man taking flight again later this fall, as well as my review of Jesse Eisenberg’s dramedy A Real Pain, and a look at the latest episode of The Hot Mic.

There are also stories about Netflix’s data dump and what surprises may await us during the streamer’s two NFL games on Christmas Day, plus the first teaser for Season 2 of Squid Game and a whole bunch of minor casting news.
